PE and Sport Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

Selborne CE Primary School PE Funding Statement

What is the PE and sports premium?

Each school receives £8000 plus an £5 per additional pupil per year to be spent on improving sport and PE provision for all pupils. And for this year this amount is being increased and for the academic year 2020-21, Selborne will receive £16,780.  This will focus on maintaining standards of inter-school competition and raising physical activity on a weekly basis through outdoor learning, enhancing the curriculum by increasing the time children spend being physically active in their learning rather than sat in classrooms.

Below is a joint statement from the Department for Education and the Department for Culture, Media & Sport about the PE and sports premium:

“We are spending over £450 million on improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools over the 3 academic years 2013 to 2014, 2014 to 2015 and 2015 to 2016. We will allocate this extra funding directly to primary headteachers.”

“Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:

•hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE lessons

•support and involve the least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs, e.g. the Change4Life clubs

•provide resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers

•run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in the School Games

•run sports activities with other schools"

Impact

Children have extensive access to after school provision which includes training sessions and tournaments. Over the past years, they have the opportunity to attend: Three Cross Country races; Hockey; Orienteering; Table Tennis; Basketball; Dodgeball; Badminton; Athletics; Girls Football; Boys Football; Netball; and Tri-Golf. These are open to all children in the age group for which planned and there is no selection other than for the final team event, there is a good take up in these events.

Children take part in the Golden 10 each day - which is an additional 10 minutes of exercise daily.

We have helped to fund and taken part in the Alton Area Primary Swimming Gala - children are very keen to take part in this and it is always oversubscribed.

Children also have an opportunity to attend Aspire Sports Club, Cricket Club and Karate Club during the school week as a paid activity.

Sporting activity has a high profile in the school and the children are very keen to participate. Many of our children are achieving well in the cluster competitions both on a personal basis but also as teams across the age ranges.
